Culinary week with concluding firework

The culinary week in Bad Breisig offers a special festival for all gourmets and gastronomers. The health resort lies on the Rhine river side, about 30 km north from Koblenz / Coblence and about 30 km south from Bonn. The castle palace Rheineck, a former palatine castle from the 11th century, crowns high above the town. The culinary week has had its fixed place in the yearly event calendar of Bad Breisig since 1974. It always takes place in the second half of the July month. The culinary week has attracted the friends of good cuisine from way past the country's frontier since years. The highlight of the event is the summer nights festival with a big hill firework over the Rhine river.

The culinary week, which is a specialty in this form in Germany, represents a world trip for gourmets, because year for year the delectabilities from cuisine and cellar change in the sign of specific German Federal States and nationalities, whereby each restaurant represents its meals and menus. The participating gastronomers always have different ideas how to pamper their guests with specialties from Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg, France, Austria, Sweden, Hungary, Spain, China, Mexico, the the Caribbeans or african lands.

The open air buffet in the spa park is the prelude to the culinary week. A buffet, which is about 30 meters long, awaits the visitors with great culinary delights from the finest. A cocktail bar, wine booths and beer booths as well as musical entertainment by a live band rounds off the event. The Bad Breisig Brunnenkonigin (well queen) and the mayor hold the welcome greetings. The highlight of the sybarite evening is the knighting of the patron of the culinary week, a representative of politics or economy. Such well-known personalities such as the former federal minister for the environment Klaus Topfer or the CDU-chair person and former federal minister for Women and Youth, Angela Merkel have been knighted. The actual culinary week with the specialty offer of the gastronomy company starts two days after the sybarite evening.

A firework display of the summer nights festival ends the culinary week. Numerous booths on the Rhine river bank invite you to stroll. For musical entertainment is taken care for. After nightfall, a great firework is ignited at about 10:30 p.m. on the connecting side of the right Rhine river side in Bad Honningen, which lies opposite of the spa town Bad Breisig. Even if it doesn't belong to quite the biggest and the most well-known events such as the fireworks of the of "Rhine in flames" / "Rhine aflame" event, it never the less leaves impressing pictures and memories for the visitors.

At about 7:00 p.m. the passenger boats start from Koblenz / Coblence for the fireworks in Bad Breisig. Until Bad Breisig, a row of pretty Rhine river towns on both sides of the rivers, Rhine river islands, palaces and castles are passed.
The round boat trip passes by marvelous sightseeings of the town Koblenz / Coblence, the fortress Ehrenbreitstein and Deutsches Eck (German corner). Then the boats passes Koblenz / Coblence-Neuendorf, Wallersheim, the islands Niederwerth and Graswerth near Vallendar, Kesselheim, St. Sebastian, Bendorf, Bendorf Sayn, Kaltenengers, Neuwied-Engers with royal palace directly at the Rhine river banks, Urmitz, Mulheim-Karlich, Weissenthurm, Neuwied with view to the castle Monrepos, a former property of the earl of Wied, Neuwied-Irlich and Neuwied-Feldkirchen to the next stop Andernach. The departure from Andernach is at about 8:00 p.m.
On the second part of the trip you will see Leutesdorf (most northern wine town of the vine growing district of the middle Rhine river - Mittelrhein), Namedy with the island Namedy, Hammerstein with the ruins Hammerstein and Brohl-Lutzing with the castle Brohleck until Bad Breisig is reached.
Then a small Rhine river round boat trip starts. During this, the passengers can enjoy the view to the castle Rheineck above Bad Breisig and Bad Honningen which lies on the opposite side of the Rhine river. On board the guests enjoy the preordered special board menu. At about 10:30 p.m. the hill firework begins as a highlight of the summer nights festival. Exploding firecrackers, star explosions and lightning bombs light up the sky over the Rhine river and pull the visitors about 25 minutes into their spell.
