The three day wine festival in St. Goar starts on Friday and ends on Sunday. During the
wine festival a special event is integrated with the nostalgic name "Jahrmarkt der
Jahrhundertwende" ("Year market of the turn of the century"). St.
Goarshausen celebrates its wine week.
An absolute highlight of both wine festivals is the in Germany and
further away known Light spectacle "Rhine river in flames" / "Rhine river
aflame" - The night of the Lorelei rock on Saturday evening. More than ten thousands
of visitors yearly gather on both sides of the Rhine river banks and more than 70 boats
with about 30,000 boat cruise parade guests on the Rhine river between St. Goar and St.
Goarshausen. Since 1949 the firework display belongs to a fixed part of the event calendar
of both towns.

 You can enjoy the wines from the vine
growing district middle Rhine river at the wine booths in St. Goar for three whole days.
The wine booths are spread everywhere on the church place (Kirchplatz), the market place
(Marktplatz), the pedestrian zone and the Rhine river banks. Between the harbor and the
Rhine river banks you'll find the "Jahrmarkt der Jahrhundertwende" ("Year
market of the turn of the century") with its old, typical year market booths from
back then, which attract big and small, young and old. There's a good atmosphere on all
three days. Music band and bands offer musical entertainment and dance music. Attending
vine dresser dance groups offer a colorful program with their colorful traditional
costumes and folkloristic dances. Your physical well-being is taken care of at several
snack bars. Besides this, St. Goar also has a lot of hotels, restaurants and wine bars,
where meals can be eaten and a glass of wine can also be drunken.
Lots of wine booths and vine dresser alcoves at the tower and on the
market place (Marktplatz) in St. Goarshausen invite to a drink. For the event "Rhine
in flames" / "Rhine aflame" booths will also be set up on the Rhine river
banks. You can refuel your energy at different snack bars. Music groups play for dances on
all days. Traditionally, the senior evening is arranged on Tuesday. The senior group
entertains you with different kinds of dances.
On Saturday evening, everything starts. At about 8:30 p.m., the house
fronts of St. Goar and St. Goarshausen and the medieval castles will be illuminated. Light
rings spread out on the Rhine river and the castles Katz and Rheinfels, the towns St. Goar
and St. Goarshausen and the Rhine river hills light up in bengal lights. The atmophere
rises gradually.
 At about 8:45 p.m. the first rocket will be
ignited from a boat. This rocket builds a prelude to a firework display of the
superlative. One after the other, four firework displays begin from the castle Katz (cat)
near St. Goarshausen, from the head of the harbor in St. Goar, from the castle Rheinfels
(biggest castle ruin in the Rhineland) near St. Goar and from a ferry. In front of the
non-reappearing scenery, the fireworks draw exploding pictures in the nightly sky above
the romantic Rhine river valley gorge with its steep hills, the illuminated towns and the
brightly lighted castles. During this show, many a visitors feel a cold shower run down
their back. The fireworks are also an acoustically impressable experience. On the rock
hills the explosion sounds of the firecrackers and rockets re-echo several times. In a
more contemplative programm, the firework displays show themselves in especially hot and
dry years. Because of fire danger, the fireworks can only be ignited from the ferry.
If you want to experience the magnificent firework from the Rhine river,
you should book a place in due time one of the 70 boats which depart to St. Goar and St.
Goarshausen from Koblenz / Coblence, Boppard and other starting points to the "Rhine
in flames / Rhine aflame - night of the Lorelei rock". Of course, for
entertainment and your physical well-being is taken care of during the boat parade cruise.
